Are Import-Shape Number Plates Legal in the UK?

What about plate size for imports?

This is where things vary by vehicle rather than by import status specifically. Some imported vehicles — particularly certain imports, sports cars, and 4x4s — have a mounting area that doesn’t suit the standard 520mm x 111mm oblong plate, and may be entitled to a short, square, or otherwise non-standard legal size instead. Whether that applies to your specific vehicle depends on its mounting area and specification, not simply on the fact that it’s an import.
