Standard (2D) plates — the practical choice

Characters are printed directly onto white (front) or yellow (rear) 5mm reflective acrylic in Charles Wright 2001 font. There is no raised element. The plate is flat, clean, and exactly as you would find from the factory on a new car.

Best for: Classic cars, older vehicles, drivers who want a factory-original look, fleet vehicles, or anyone replacing a damaged plate like-for-like. Also the best choice if cost is the primary consideration.

3D Gel plates — the popular upgrade

3D Gel plates start life as a standard printed plate but have a clear polyurethane gel dome bonded over each character. The dome gives each letter and number a raised, rounded, glossy appearance. The effect adds visual depth without the sharp edges of 4D characters.

Best for: Drivers who want a premium look without the maximum cost. 3D Gel is one of the most popular upgrades on modern cars. The rounded dome style suits most vehicle colours well.

4D Laser-Cut plates — the bold choice

4D plates use characters that are precision-cut from a separate piece of 3mm acrylic using CNC laser technology, then bonded to the plate backing. This produces a bold, flat-top raised character with crisp 90-degree edges — a distinctly different look from the rounded dome of 3D Gel. The characters are machined to micron accuracy.

Best for: Modern and sporty vehicles, dark-coloured cars, drivers who want a more aggressive or premium appearance. Particularly popular on performance cars, SUVs, and newer registrations.

4D Gel plates — the premium finish

4D Gel plates take the laser-cut acrylic characters of standard 4D and add a polyurethane coating over the top. The result is the deepest, most visually striking finish in the range: the bold profile of 4D with the added gloss and slight rounding of a gel top coat.
