What makes a 2D plate road legal in the UK
Every plate we ship is manufactured to BS AU 145e, the British Standard governing road-legal UK plates. That means: 79mm character height, 50mm width (most letters), 14mm stroke thickness, 11mm character spacing, 33mm group spacing, on a 5mm reflective acrylic base. White at the front, yellow at the rear, solid black characters - the only legal combination.
Each plate is permanently marked on the back with our DVLA-registered postcode, BS certification number, and manufacture date.

Will Standard plates pass MOT?
Yes. Every plate we make complies with BS AU 145e and carries the required permanent supplier marking. MOT testers check exactly these standards.
Can I get a tinted or coloured Standard plate for the road?
No. UK law requires the standard white/yellow reflective backgrounds with solid black characters. Show plates with custom colours exist but are off-road / display only.
Do Standard plates fade?
Our plates use UV-stabilised reflective sheeting that retains its brightness for the life of the vehicle in normal UK conditions. Cheap eBay plates without UV stabilisation can yellow in 2-3 years - ours don’t.
Can I have a motorcycle Standard plate?
Yes - motorcycle plates are smaller (228mm × 178mm) and rear-only. Choose this size in our builder.
